Renys Department Stores use a Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) wide-area network provided by Great Works Internet (GWI) to electronically connect all of its stores to its home office in Newcastle, according to Mary Kate Reny, who handles operations support for the stores.

By tracking what is really selling in its stores, Renys has simply become more efficient.

Once its bigger warehouse and its broadband network were in place, Renys opened two more stores in Wells and Saco, creating 90-plus jobs as well.

“Our wide-area network allows us to communicate with every cash register, in every store. This capability gives us real-time data immediately, which has fundamentally transformed almost every process involved in running a retail business: movement of merchandise, inventory, buying decisions, and day-to-day communication with each store,” said Reny.

“This change has not only transformed how we do business, but more importantly, how much faster we do business!”
