Inexperience blamed for bike accident

A Brewer woman who flipped her motorcycle was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor on Wednesday evening for minor injuries.

The accident was caused by rider inexperience, said Officer Paul Gauvin of the Brewer police.

Amanda Rice, 20, was riding a red Suzuki Katana when a car stopped or slowed down in front of her at the corner of State and Main streets, according to Gauvin. Rice braked too hard and went into a wheelie, flipping the bike upside down and shattering the windshield.

She was not wearing a helmet.

Rice suffered an unspecified injury to her wrist and abrasions to her legs, Gauvin said.

The driver of the car did not stop. Gauvin said the driver may not have seen the accident.
