VISITING CELIA’S GARDEN Appledore Island opens up on guided tours

. Guided tours are given on Wednesdays only, June 21-Aug. 30. Reservations are required and the boat is limited to 50 passengers. Participants are transported aboard the M/V Lady Tracey Ann, operated by Eastman’s Docks, from Seabrook, N.H. Departures are at 9:30 a.m.; be there by 9:00 a.m, returning to Seabrook around 4:30 p.m.

. For 2006, the cost is $75 per person, prepaid to the Shoals Marine Laboratory by personal check or credit card (American Express, Mastercard, Visa or Discover). Tickets include the guided tour, parking and round-trip transportation between Appledore Island and Seabrook on vessels operated by Eastman’s Fleet. A picnic lunch can be purchased in Seabrook, near the dock or aboard the vessel. No food is available on Appledore. Restrooms and drinking water are provided. The schedule is subject to weather and sea conditions.

. All proceeds from the guided tours are used solely to support the SML scholarship fund.

. Appledore Island, 10 miles off the Maine coast, has a rugged terrain. Visitors should be reasonably agile and in good physical condition for walking. The trail to the garden is about 1/4 mile. Wear comfortable shoes and clothing; bring a hat.

. For reservations or information, call 607-254-2900 or 607-255-3717 or e-mail: shoals-lab@cornell.edu.
