Orrington stars record two wins in state tourney

ELLSWORTH – The Orrington ages 11-12 All-Star softball team improved to 3-1 in the state Little League tourney over the weekend with a 9-2 win over Rockland Saturday and a 4-1 victory over Falmouth Sunday.

On Saturday, Emily Cox allowed just two runs on one hit and one walk and recorded 16 of 18 outs on strikeouts to lead Orrington.

Cox and Nicole Murphy had two singles and a double for Orrington. Amy Curry tripled and doubled.

Lindsay Ranquis singled for Rockland.

On Sunday, Kelcey Simpson pitched a no-hitter and recorded 14 strikeouts to lead Orrington to victory.

Emily Cox hit three singles and knocked in a run for Orrington and Nicole Murphy singled and scored.

Sarah Collmus had eight strikeouts for Falmouth.

At Ellsworth, Meigh Wyman pitched the shutout for Falmouth by allowing just three hits and one walk while striking out 11 on Saturday.

Addie Weller singled twice for Falmouth.

Allison Hill, Emily McCadden, and Jen Ross singled for Calais.

Hannah Ebling singled twice to drive in two runs to spark Saco Saturday.

Jenny Scontras had two singles with an RBI for Saco and Sarah Young doubled.

Kirsten Whitaker had two singles and a double for Auburn and Chrissy Lewis added two singles.

Bucksport 4, Waldoboro 3

At Ellsworth, Ryan Bailey scored the winning run from third base on a passed ball in the sixth inning to lead Bucksport past Waldoboro Saturday.

Bailey singled twice for Bucksport as Tyler McAllain, James Potter, an Billy Deredine doubled. Cody Davis recorded nine strikeouts.

Shane Osier hit a two-run home run in the first inning for Waldoboro and Buddy Simmons followed with a solo shot.

Liam Hobbins allowed just one hit and four walks while striking out 14 to lead Saco to the shutout win Saturday.

Ryan Locke hit two singles and a grand slam for Saco and Hobbins added a two-run home run and a single.

Carl Farnham singled for Bangor West in the fifth inning.

Harry Ridge hit a three-run home run and a solo home run to lead Yarmouth past Elliot Avenue of Lewiston on Saturday. The game was ended after five innings due to lightning.

Campbell Hailey doubled and singled for Yarmouth and Louie Distasio had two singles. Connor Anthoine doubled for Elliot Avenue.

Kyle Forbes hit a two-run homer and a single for Saco and Liam Hobbins doubled and singled.

Tyler McAllain homered and singled with two RBIs for Bucksport and Andrew Giosia added a single and a solo home run. Matt Swazey homered and James Potter doubled.

Ben Chicione hit an RBI double and a single to help lead Elliot Avenue of Lewiston past Bangor West in the four-inning darkness-shortened game.

Josiah Hartley hit a three-run home run and a single for Bangor West and Jesse Wood singled twice.

At Holden, Brandon Briggs hit a solo home run and singled to lead Saco by Portland North.

Sam Grindle doubled and singled twice for Coastal and Hayden Ciomei doubled.

Seth Corbin, John Suga and Caleb Rivera each singled for Dirigo.

At Ellsworth, Tyler Salsbury doubled to drive in two runs and help Ellsworth win.

Patrick Kelley hit three singles with an RBI for Ellsworth and also pitched the complete game.

Justin Gilmartin and Sam Stewart doubled and singled with two RBIs for Acadian. Danny Dunn doubled and Max Timko hit an RBI single. Calvin Tweedie added two singles.
