PORTLAND – The Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram has named Bob Crider as its new managing editor.

Crider, 54, has been managing editor at the Yakima Herald-Republic in Yakima, Wash., since 1997. Both papers are owned by The Seattle Times Co.

Crider replaces Eric Conrad, who left the Press Herald to become editor of The News-Times in Danbury, Conn.

Crider, a Wisconsin native, began his career at the East Oregonian in Pendleton, Ore. He has also worked at The Daily News in Longview, Wash., and the Walla Walla Union-Bulletin in Walla Walla, Wash.

The Press Herald is a 70,000 circulation daily, and the Telegram’s circulation is 110,000.

Crider will start Sept. 18.
