Former Providence College men’s basketball standout Mike Brown was hired as an assistant men’s basketball coach at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, the school announced Friday.

Brown played on the Friars’ 1994 Big East Championship team, and has spent the last 10 seasons playing overseas, including stints in China, Great Britain and Greece.

He led the Brighton Bears of the British Basketball League to a pair of BBL titles and spent the last two seasons with AGE Halkidas in Greece, where he was named to the league’s All-Bosman team in 2004-05. Brown replaces Mark Gilbride, who accepted a job at Amherst College this summer.
