Desjardins, Hackett spark Bangor Orrington Little League softball team tips Massachusetts in regional

BANGOR – Tyler Desjardins pitched a five-inning no-hitter with eight strikeouts and one walk as Bangor shut out Kennebunk 17-0 Sunday at Mansfield Stadium in the state Junior League baseball tournament.

Desjardins tripled and singled with two RBIs while Lonnie Hackett hit three singles and drove in four runs. Brian Higgins added three singles with an RBI while Will Johnson singled twice with an RBI for Bangor.

At Mansfield Stadium in Bangor Saturday, Nate Lewis’ two-run single with two outs in the bottom of the ninth proved to be the game-winning hit as Bangor held off South Portland.

Devin Lyshon drove in two runs on a double and a single and Tyler Desjardins singled twice. Bud Angst added a double for Bangor.

Connor Hasson hit a two-run triple, Matt Lee chipped in a double and a single, and John Medici tallied two singles for South Portland.

At Mansfield Stadium in Bangor Saturday, Kennebunk broke the game open in the bottom of the fourth, scoring three runs to take the lead for good.

Kyle Campbell doubled, singled and drove in a run and Robbie Stockbridge added an RBI double for Kennebunk.

Ellsworth’s Andrew Hodge hit a triple and a single with two RBIs. Seth Cote, Jordan Carter and Jason Sprague each chipped in two singles for Ellsworth.

At Mansfield Stadium in Bangor Saturday, Andrew Hodge threw a complete game, two-hitter, and tallied four hits as Ellsworth cruised past Auburn.

Hodge hit three singles and double and Brad Folmer drove in three runs on a double and two singles. Seth Cote and Jordan Carter added two singles and two RBI for Ellsworth.

Kenzie Souders and Matt Gordon each notched RBI singles for Auburn.

At Mansfield Stadium in Bangor Sunday, South Portland scored five runs in the bottom of the first to take the early lead and hang on for the win.

Joe Falconieri had two singles and two RBI to lead South Portland. Matt Lee doubled and singled and Mike Foley singled twice.

Chase Bickford doubled and singled. Brad Folmer and Dakota Jewett hit two singles apiece for Ellsworth.

At Mansfield Stadium, Bangor, Joe Jones pitched a complete game allowing one earned run on six hits with seven strikeouts as South Portland earned the win over Kennebunk.

Matt Lee hit a double and two singles with two RBIs while Mike Decenso had two singles. Connor Hasson hit an RBI triple and Kyle Randall also had a triple for South Portland.

Chris Richardson and Pat Fulford each hit two singles for Kennebunk.

East regional

Orrington 3, Mass. 2 (8 inns.)

At Albany, N.Y., Saturday, Orrington scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to beat Massachusetts 3-2 in pool play of the East regional.

Orrington fell to Rhode Island 5-0 Sunday.

In Saturday’s game, Emily Cox hit a two-run double, driving in Dayna Detour and Kelsey Simpson to give Orrington the win. Cox struck out 21 batters and Lauren Goodall hit an RBI double.

Orrington (1-1) will face New Hampshire Tuesday and Vermont Wednesday to round out pool play.

Senior League softball

East regional

Md. 17, Hampden-Newburgh 0

At Easton, Md., two Maryland pitchers combined on a no-hitter Saturday to shut down the Maine representative from Hampden-Newburgh Little League.

Maryland pitchers Brittany Teres and Katerina Yates combined for the no-hitter. Maryland pounded out 13 hits, including a Samantha Clement home run.

Lacey Littlefield, Hailey Smith and Ashley Gott all pitched for Hampden-Newburgh.

The Maine representative will next face Pennsylvania today at 5:30 p.m.

Coastal 6, Sacopee Valley 2

At Mansfield Stadium in Bangor Saturday, Coastal scored four runs in the first inning, highlighted by doubles from Collin Ciomei and Nick Saunders, en route to the win.

Coastal’s Caleb Hale pitched a complete game allowing one earned run on four hits with one walk and 11 strikeouts. Casey Hull doubled and singled with an RBI while Ciomei had a double and a single.

Eric Stanton had a two-run triple for Sacopee Valley.

At Mansfield Stadium in Bangor Saturday, Adam Lutz hit a two-run double and a single as Auburn scored 10 runs in the top of the first to down Sacopee Valley.

Lutz added another single and Kyle Bussiere drove in four runs on two singles for Auburn.

Pat Nethercott, Jimmy Palmer and Eric Stanton each singled for Sacopee Valley.

At Mansfield Stadium in Bangor Sunday, Coastal jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning on three hits as it went on to defeat Suburban.

Collin Ciomei hit four singles for Coastal.

Nate MeCray and Adam Nortom each doubled and singled while Matt Reader had two singles with an RBI. Ryan Williams added an RBI double for Suburban.

At Mansfield Stadium in Bangor Saturday, Ryan Robb hit an RBI double in the ninth inning to give Suburban the winning run as it defeated Auburn Friday.

Robb had a double and a single with two RBIs while Nate MeCray added two singles for Suburban.

Adam Lutz had a three-run inside the park home run and a triple. Josh Mains tripled while Devin Flynn doubled for Auburn.
