The National Weather Service in Caribou predicted Tuesday that today’s temperatures in Bangor will reach a high of 90 degrees Fahrenheit, but the heat will be only temporary.
“It will be short-lived for Bangor,” Michael Fitzsimmons, a senior forecaster, said Tuesday. “A northwest wind tomorrow night [Wednesday] will bring cooler and drier air. Highs on Thursday will only be in the 70s.”
Thunderstorms are expected today in Bangor and on the coast, especially in the afternoon. The record high for Bangor on today’s date was recorded in 1975 at 102 degrees.
The northern half of Penobscot County is expected to have highs in the 80s. Central Piscataquis County will register in the mid-80s, and a high of 90 degrees is predicted for southernmost parts of that county.
Northern Somerset County, as well as interior Hancock County and central Washington County, will experience highs in the low 80s. Temperatures in coastal Hancock County will reach the high 80s.
Northern Aroostook County will reach highs in the mid-80s, and that portion of the state will be the only part that does not experience scattered thunderstorms today, according to the NWS.
