BREWER – Drug enforcement agents and Brewer police arrested four people and charged three with trafficking in drugs early Wednesday morning after investigating the group for several months, according to the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency.

The MDEA said in a press release that it received information that one of the men under suspicion of drug trafficking had rented a room at a Brewer motel and reportedly was selling cocaine from it.

The MDEA said that when Andre Evans, 36, of Bangor arrived with Zina Brown, 19, also of Bangor, at around 4 a.m., agents detained the two and searched the room, seizing 118 grams of cocaine and two grams of heroin. Along with the drugs, more than $4,500 cash and a semiautomatic pistol were found. The estimated value of the drugs is more than $11,000.

The Bangor addresses given to Penobscot County Jail officials by the suspects were not consistent with where agents said they lived. The MDEA reported that Evans and Brown were both from New York.

The MDEA alleged that the drugs were brought to the area from New York by Brown, and that this was not the first time she had trafficked drugs here.

Police arrested a third person, Donna Dray, 37, of Bangor, for her alleged involvement in selling the drugs and transporting both the suspects and the drugs. She was charged with drug trafficking.

Mark Turner, 36, of Bangor was also arrested and charged with theft. Turner had volunteered to assist agents with the investigation, but then stole cash and equipment, and tried to flee, according to the MDEA. He was caught and detained, the press release said.

All four made their initial appearances Wednesday in Bangor District Court, where bail was set. As of 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, none of the suspects had made bail, according to jail officials. The suspects are scheduled to appear next on Oct. 13 in Penobscot County Superior Court.

Brown was charged with unlawful trafficking of drugs and illegal importation of drugs. Evans was charged with two counts of aggravated trafficking of drugs.

The MDEA said the investigation is continuing and more arrests are possible.
