CUMBERLAND – Whitney Hand of Bucksport captured her second straight girls title in the Maine Junior Golf Championship at Val Halla Golf Course Thursday.

Hand, 17, defeated Katy Heskett of Sebasco in the championship round in match play 4 and 2 after advancing with victories on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Hand, who will be a senior at Bucksport High this fall, defeated Kate Merrill of Scarborough 1 up on Wednesday after winning a previous match by forfeit.

She advanced to match play with an 81 in stroke play on Tuesday. Last week Hand finished fourth in the Women’s Maine State Golf Association championship and won its junior title.

John Hayes IV of Cape Elizabeth won the boys title when he defeated Mike Amato of Blue Hill 1 up. In other boys divisions, Seth Sweet of Madison won the title for ages 12 and under and Brian Angis prevailed in the ages 13-14 class.
