BANGOR – A Southwest Harbor man was arrested and charged with operating under the influence and operating without a license Saturday night after allegedly trying to slip away from police.

The driver, Vaughn Clark, 42, turned onto the Odlin Road in Bangor when he realized he was driving on the wrong side of the road and drove over the median to correct his mistake, according to police files.

But when he realized a nearby police officer witnessed his error, Clark sped up, turned off his lights and tried to elude the officer, according to the police report. When Clark reached the Holiday Inn, he stopped the gray Ford Mustang behind the hotel and ran, along with his passenger, finally hiding from officers behind a parked white minivan, the report said.

But he was captured and taken to the police station. The car was impounded, police said.
