Women golfers ready for TEE CUP

ORONO and BANGOR – More than 70 members of the women’s golf associations at the Penobscot Valley Country Club and Bangor Municipal Golf Course will enjoy camaraderie, competition and fun on Wednesday and Thursday, Aug. 16-17, in their own modified version of the Ryder Cup, affectionately and officially dubbed The TEE CUP.

On Wednesday, participants will play a scramble best-ball, two-ball format at Penobscot Valley Country Club in Orono. On Thursday, teams will play an alternate shot, best ball at Bangor Municipal Golf Course.

The idea for the competition emerged last year when several women golfers from both clubs started talking about the Ryder Cup and dreaming of the fun it would be to have their own such event. The women from the two golf facilities often compete against one another in various events and tournaments – thus The TEE CUP was conceived.

The TEE CUP welcomes all women to compete. Marilyn Rice of Bangor Municipal Golf Course and Sherrie Thomas of Penobscot Valley Country Club will make team pairings that will ensure that each participant has two good days of golf.

At The TEE CUP event, player ages will span six decades.
