BANGOR – The Maine Commission for Community Service announced this week that it is accepting applications for more than 100 AmeriCorps positions for their fall and winter cycles.
AmeriCorps is a network of national service programs that engage more than 50,000 Americans each year in intensive service to meet critical needs in education, public safety, health and the environment. AmeriCorps members spend a year serving in literacy programs, environmental groups, neighborhood safety initiatives and other organizations providing essential community services.
In exchange for a year of service, AmeriCorps members receive a monthly living wage, child care reimbursement, health insurance and, upon completion of service, a $4,725 education award to be applied to postsecondary tuition or existing student loans. Positions are available statewide, and individuals with disabilities are encouraged to apply.
More information is available online at www.americorps.org or by contacting the Maine Commission for Community Service at 287-5313.
