MADAWASKA – Alex Martin scored three goals and assisted on the other as Van Buren opened its schoolboy soccer season with a 4-1 boys victory over rival Madawaska Monday.
Ruben Hastings scored a second half goal for the 1-0 Crusaders and Keith Vallancourt recorded an assist. Andrew Taylor stopped six of seven shots.
Craig Daigle scored six minutes into the second half on a Tyler Levesque assist for 0-1 Madawaska. Chad Bechard made 11 saves on 22 shots.
Hodgdon 2, Easton 1
At Easton, Nick Mazzacco and Seth Dorr each scored a first-half goal to lift Hodgdon by Easton.
Alex Harris notched an assist for the 2-0 winners and Daniel McGillicuddy made 12 saves on 20 shots.
Brad Trask scored an unassisted second-half goal for 0-1 Easton and Jeremy Brock made 12 saves on 21 shots.
Girls soccer
Washburn 1, Wisdom 0
At Washburn, Erica McDougall scored in the 27th minute of the first half on an Alex Bird assist to give Washburn the victory.
Amber Palmer saw no shots in goal for the 1-0 Beavers.
Kayla Daigle stopped 13 of 26 shots for 1-1 Wisdom of St. Agatha.
Van Buren 2, Madawaska 1
At Madawaska, Lindsay Lajoie and Megan Lajoie scored first-half goals to lead Van Buren past Madawaska.
Jennifer Ouellette stopped eight of nine shots for the 1-0 Crusaders.
Nicole Daigle scored in the first half for the 0-1 Owls as Stephanie Nadeau made four saves on seven shots.
Hodgdon 5, Easton 0
At Easton, Brianne McGray scored two goals to help lead Hodgdon to the win.
Alyssa Hutchinson, Shannon Martin, and Amanda Scott scored for the 2-0 Hawks. Heather London made two saves on five shots.
Brianna White blocked 22 of 27 shots for 0-2 Easton.
