PORTLAND – The Boston Red Sox returned righthanded pitcher Barry Hertzler to the Portland Sea Dogs from Triple-A Pawtucket on Tuesday.

Lefthanded pitcher Randy Beam was placed on the disabled list. Also, catcher Mike Leonard was returned to Single-A Greenville and catcher Mat Kent was moved up to Portland from Single-A Wilmington. Infielder Brian Myrow was placed on the temporary inactive list, and infielder Iggy Suarez was activated from the temporary inactive list.

Hertzler, 25, started the year with the Sea Dogs, appearing in 16 games and recording four saves with a 1.05 earned run average. After being promoted to Triple-A Pawtucket on May 26, he appeared in 25 games and posted a 4-2 record with two saves and a 4.87 ERA.

Kent, 26, played for Australian in the 2006 World Baseball Classic and was signed as a minor league free agent in February. In 33 games at Wilmington, he hit .137 with two home runs and nine RBIs.
