A sweet salute

Another eastern Maine woman has won an ice cream party through Edy’s Slow Churned Neigborhood Salute contest. In her winning essay, Ruth Thompson of Orono writes, “I live in what everyone calls a “college town,” but we’re more than just that. I live in the old part of town – you could almost call it the “slow-churned” part of town. We live away from the hustle and bustle of the university, and we know most of our neighbors.” Since 2006 is the town’s bicentennial, Thompson thought an ice cream party would be a great way to celebrate. She won enough ice cream, fixings, camera and serving ware to accommodate 100 guests on Aug. 19. For information, visit www.edys.com.

Toast and taste

Bangor Wine and Cheese will toast its new distributor, South Portland Wine Co., at a tasting from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday. Wine representatives Doug and Cat Watts and Mike Vilchinsky will lead a tour through their wine portfolio, with visits to France, South Africa, Australia, Spain, Oregon, California, and Washington. For information, call 942-3338.

Courtyard thrill

For all of you hungry Bangoreans who have sorely missed the Courtyard Grille, you now have reason to rejoice. The popular downtown eatery is about to reopen under the same name, pending a visit from the state inspector. Stalkers can keep driving by the 96 Hammond St. location until the Open sign is up. For those of you who prefer a more sane approach, try calling the restaurant’s new number, 992-2611.
