LEWISTON – A 36-year-old Lewiston woman who was left in the middle of an Auburn street after falling off the back of a motorcycle last month has died of her injuries.

Irene Douglas suffered severe neck and back injuries when she fell off the motorcycle around 1 a.m. July 22. She died Sunday at Central Maine Medical Center, hospital officials said.

Douglas fell off the back of the motorcycle after meeting up with two men at an Auburn nightclub and asking for a ride.

Scott Soulard, 36, of Old Orchard Beach and John Ferland, 32, of Auburn turned themselves in to police the next day and were charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving serious bodily injury.

Police are investigating whether alcohol played a role in the accident.

Ferland told police that Douglas “appeared to fall asleep and became very sloppy on the back of the motorcycle” and fell off when he took a sharp left turn, according to a police accident report.
