LINCOLN – The Lincoln Water District canceled its boil-water order Thursday, ending a two-day emergency imposed when a water main broke.

“Everything’s back up to 100 percent,” said general manager Ron Gray on Thursday.

The order was issued after the break occurred about 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in South Lincoln off U.S. Route 2 near Pollard Brook.

Pump station workers were alerted when gauges that typically showed 900 to 1,000 gallons being pumped per minute showed a dramatic change.

As of 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Water Department workers had fixed the break and had begun flushing the system townwide with a double dose of chlorine.

The state Department of Health and Human Services inspected all of Lincoln’s restaurants on Wednesday, and the district reported that all were found in total compliance with requirements and precautions set forth by the water district.

Gray said the district has about 1,500 customers and serves 3,500 people.
