It’s any motorcycle fanatic’s dream – a custom built chopper, and now that I’m legally able to ride the roads on two wheels, I’m hooked.

I’ve always enjoyed watching the drama of the Teutuls, better known as Paul Sr., Mikey and Paul Jr., on Discovery’s “American Chopper,” but now I’m all about the bike and the build.

Having grown up around motorcycles, I’ve always had the itch to get on and ride, but now I’m a little nervous. All those buttons and levers to worry about while you’re trying to watch the road and all the other traffic at the same time is overwhelming. So overwhelming that I have yet to even put the starter sports bike we just bought into first gear.

But a girl can dream and that’s exactly what I did when I saw that Discovery has another motorcycle reality show out there.

While flipping channels, I came across “Biker Build-Off.”

It’s a twist on the pros at Orange County Chopper and shows real guys making real bikes that they drive 1,000 miles in a competition to see who has got what it takes to be the “Biker Build-Off” champ.

While the guys at OCC have to concentrate on making a chopper that fits the customer, the build-off competition is more about getting the mechanics right and creating a bike that will turn heads and bring in the votes.

The most recent “American Chopper” featured the “Caddy Shack” chopper, complete with TNT battery casing, lawnmower blade rims and garden hose handlebars.

Don’t get me wrong, the Teutuls and their crew have created some pretty amazing all-American choppers, such as the POW bike and the recently revealed Air Force and Army choppers.

The Army can be proud of this one that’s complete with grenades, dog tags and an ammo belt.

No matter which show you watch, it’s fun to see boring metal rods and pipes be transformed into creative, chromed-out genius with some paint and fine tuning.

Even if you’re not interested in the choppers there’s enough drama to support any reality TV addict’s habit.

After being reminded by a co-worker, there’s something important I have forgotten to mention the last couple of weeks. One of my favorite reality shows, “The Contender,” is doing well this seasons since its move to ESPN.

While the ratings appeared weak for the first couple of episodes, the word has gotten out and the show is picking up.

Now if they’d just change the time slot to make it fit around my schedule.
