BANGOR – A Skowhegan man was sentenced Thursday to 2 1/2 years in federal prison on gun charges.

Troy Lake, 36, also was sentenced in U.S. District Court to three years of supervised release after his incarceration.

He faced up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.

U.S. District Judge John Woodcock did not impose a fine.

Lake pleaded guilty in December in federal court in Bangor to owning a shotgun and three rifles.

He was prohibited from possessing firearms because of a conviction in 2001 in Androscoggin County Superior Court for assault on his live-in girlfriend at the time.

Skowhegan police found the guns on April 26, 2005, when they were called to a dispute between Lake and his mother, Gweyn Hayden, at a Moores Mill Road residence, according to court documents.
