Former Bucksport High School shortstop Jill Richards has been awarded a $500 scholarship from the Maine American Softball Association.

Richards, a second baseman and shortstop for Merrimack College, was one of four scholarship recipients. Courtney Wallace of Bonny Eagle was also awarded $500, while Jill Kimball of Telstar and Monica White of Cony each received $400. The winners were chosen based on essays about how ASA has affected their lives.

Richards was apart of the ASA’s 18-under state championship team in 2005. She was a Penobscot Valley Conference Class B honorable mention at shortstop in 2004 and she was a member of the Bucks’ 2003 Eastern Maine Class B title team.
