A 94-year-old Bangor man stopped by police Monday morning for having an expired registration put his car in drive and left the scene while the investigating officer returned to his cruiser to process paperwork.

Officer Christopher Blanchard stopped Kern Foss, 94, at approximately 7:40 a.m. on Union Street in Bangor. The officer asked Foss to present his license and registration. Foss told the officer that “they” had taken his paperwork.

Blanchard left Foss’ vehicle to return to his cruiser to process paperwork. The report states that Foss drove off. The officer pursued Foss, with sirens and lights on, to his residence on Tyler Avenue.

Foss received a verbal warning for failing to stop; a written warning for failing to provide proof of insurance; and was summoned for operating after suspension, and having an expired registration for more than 150 days. Foss’ vehicle was towed away and will be kept until Foss can produce valid registration.

Bangor police received a call just before 9 p.m. Sunday from a woman who said her adopted brother, Paul Clemente, 51, had assaulted her.

Officer Steve Pelletier arrived at the scene to find the complainant unhurt, but visibly disheveled and dirty after being attacked by her brother on Center Street, she said.

The officer suspected Clemente might be under the influence of intoxicants. The complainant’s boyfriend, who was not present during the alleged assault, informed the officer that Clemente had been drinking and using marijuana and other substances, said the report.

Police said an intoxilyzer test confirmed that the suspect had been drinking, which was a violation of earlier bail conditions.

Clemente was then arrested and charged with assault and violation of bail.

A Bangor motorist faces several charges after he struck three people and two vehicles while trying to leave a parking lot Saturday night after returning to Orrington from a group fishing trip, according to police.

Edwin Rodriguez, 21, was charged with driving to endanger, reckless conduct and operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of intoxicants after the incident at Crescent Lumber and Building Supplies.

Rodriguez had been drinking and was involved in an altercation on the bus on the return trip, Penobscot County Sheriff’s Deputy Kenny Williams said Monday.

As Rodriguez tried to leave Crescent Lumber’s parking lot, his pickup truck hit another vehicle, then the three men trying to stop him, before hitting the bus used in the trip, Williams said.

A 51-year-old man injured both legs and was listed in fair condition Monday at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. The other two who were struck weren’t injured.

Williams said the incident is still under investigation and that other charges could be filed.

A Lincoln Street resident told Bangor police that sometime during the weekend someone took a mountain bike he had left by his shed. The Raleigh M50DX 24-gear mountain bike had a light on the front and had a combined value of about $800, the man told Bangor police Officer Christopher Blanchard.
