Bangor beauties, listen up

Calling all sassy lasses in the Queen City: Marie Claire magazine is rolling into Bangor on Thursday for its new monthly feature, “Beauty Road Show.” The section is a salute to America’s diverse and fabulous faces – and we all know Bangor has plenty of those.

Two weeks ago, the Bangor Convention and Visitors Bureau was informed that the city was chosen as one of five stops on the tour. Minneapolis, Minn.; Dallas, Texas; Phoenix, Ariz.; and Wilmington, N.C., are the other cities chosen.

“We wanted to go someplace a little less obvious. Not Miami, not L.A., not Chicago,” said Marie Claire’s photo editor, Andrea Volbrecht. “We felt like you were a good nook up there in Maine, so we wanted to check out Bangor.”

For the inaugural “Beauty Road Show,” Marie Claire staffers visited New York City’s Washington Square Park to ask women what they liked most about themselves. The answers – profile, nose, rosy-red lips – were as varied and quirky as the women themselves.

The magazine’s writers want to know: What beauty tricks, routines and products make your life easier? Swear by any homemade treatments? Starting at 9 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 24, you can share your secrets with the magazine’s readers.

“There’s a possibility of being in the magazine,” Volbrecht said, “but we can’t guarantee it.”

Just stop by West Market Square – and later in the day, head over to Norumbega Park, in front of Norumbega Hall, to meet Marie Claire staffers – and you could make an appearance on the pages of an upcoming issue.

One thing you won’t get? A makeover – or a list of what not to wear.

“The whole page is about celebrating real beauty,” Volbrecht said, “the unique traits each woman has, what makes her special in her own way.”
