Friends of Dakin Pool
BANGOR – Summer in the City: The Campaign for Dakin Pool recently received a $2,000 contribution from Merrill Bank. The $100,000 capital campaign for Bangor’s first public swimming pool was launched on the opening day of summer by the Friends of Dakin Pool.
To date, $43,165 in gifts and pledges have been received. Funds raised will be used to enhance and improve the area around the pool, located on Bangor’s east side, at the end of Pine Street just past Stillwater Avenue, across from Broadway Park.
“Supporting Summer in the City: The Campaign for Dakin Pool, is part of Merrill’s commitment to building strong communities,” said Bill Lucy, president of Merrill Bank. “The Dakin Pool campaign is a community initiative that will improve the quality of life for our neighbors here in Bangor, and we’re delighted to support the efforts of the Friends of Dakin Pool.”
According to Friends of Dakin Pool President Mike Robinson, Merrill Bank has been behind the campaign for Dakin Pool from the very beginning.
“We are thankful for Merrill Bank’s contribution, and count Bill Lucy among our earliest supporters. Bill’s efforts in reaching out to the community have helped enormously, and we are so grateful,” Robinson said.
The campaign will fund five distinct areas at the Dakin Pool complex – construction of a 28-feet by 36-feet pool house to include public restrooms, a first aid station, lifeguard office and outside showers; erecting a new fence to create a grassy picnic and play area adjacent to the pool; repairs to the pool deck; creation of a new walk-way, and construction of a new 10-foot by 14-foot equipment building to house the pool pump and filtration system.
The campaign is scheduled to conclude by the end of September. The Friends of Dakin Pool is a nonprofit organization run by community volunteers. Their mission is to raise funds to enhance and improve the Dakin Pool complex. Frank C. Chapman Memorial Golf Tournament
BANGOR – St. Joseph Healthcare held its largest fundraiser, the Frank C. Chapman Memorial Golf Tournament, on Aug. 4 at Bangor Municipal Golf Course.
Nearly 200 golfers participated in the action and more than 60 businesses sponsored the event, including tournament sponsors F.L. Putnam and Merrill Bank. The event raised more than $50,000 for the addition of two new endoscopy suites at the hospital.
The addition of two new suites in the endoscopy department will result in additional space and state-of-the-art equipment which will mean shorter wait times for routine screenings, more privacy for patients and the best available care. Endoscopy provides potentially life-saving screenings needed by most people at some point in their lives.
The results of the tournament are:
. First Place Gross – Mark Sweeney, Tom Flaherty, John Lojek and Chuck McCabe.
