Explore movement with new dance form

BANGOR – With greater emphasis on physical activity these days, more diverse options are surfacing, rather than simply going to the gym. One fun way to stay or get in shape is contact improv.

Contact improv is a movement form that explores weight-sharing, gravity and momentum. Dancers explore movement possibilities in contact with a partner or partners or in solo work on the floor or other surfaces. Contact improv is often used for developing choreography, but it has become a dance form. Contact improv is appropriate for people with a wide range of abilities and interests. No prior dance training is required.

Who should take a contact improv class? Anyone with a creative spirit who enjoys working with others and who wants to “move and improve.” You can choose your own adventure as you create movement alone or with others while exploring the environment of the room or other location around you.

Cassie Pillsbury, who teaches a variety of classes in Unity, Belfast, Waterville and Bangor, will be offering a class in contact improv at Thomas School of Dance for all interested adults. Call 945-3457 for information.
