ANSON – Phyllis Kennedy, 88, of North Anson, was killed just before noon Monday in a three-car accident on Route 201-A.
Kennedy, who was driving north in a 1992 Ford sedan, attempted to pass a car on the right driven by Laurie Nelson, 43, also of North Anson, that was stopped in traffic to make a left turn, according to police.
“Ms. Kennedy attempted to pass on the right but she didn’t make it around the car and tapped it,” State Police Trooper Scott Stevens said Monday night.
The hit propelled both Nelson’s vehicle and Kennedy’s car into the southbound lane where Kennedy’s car was struck head on by a 1999 Pontiac Bonneville operated by Jason Cole, 28, of Anson.
Stevens said neither Cole nor Nelson was injured in the accident but that Kennedy died at the scene.
Trooper Randall Keaten is the investigating officer and Trooper Jeffrey Beach reconstructed the accident. Stevens said the crash appeared to be “100 percent accidental, caused by driver error, with no underlying medical conditions.”
