2 injured in Main Street crash

Two people were transported Wednesday night to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor with minor injuries after their vehicles collided in front of the Irving Mainway on Main Street in Bangor.

Walter Maddocks, 33, of Verona Island was driving a motorcycle south on Main Street toward Hampden when a Ford Escort driven by Judith Hansen, 50, of Bangor pulled in front of him, making a left turn into the convenience store parking lot.

The motorcycle ran into the right side of Hansen’s vehicle but did not cause considerable damage, according to Bangor police Officer Dan Herrick, who investigated the accident.

Tire marks caused by Maddocks’ attempt to brake and veer away from the vehicle were visible on the left side of the southbound lane.

Bangor police Lt. Jeff Millard assisted Herrick in directing traffic while the motorcycle and Ford Escort were towed away.

Bangor police arrested an Essex Street man late Tuesday night after it was reported he kept pounding on his neighbor’s door trying to talk to his girlfriend who was seeking refuge there after a fight.

Michael Giannotti, 50, told police that he was just trying to talk to his girlfriend who had gone into the downstairs apartment, but the neighbor reported he kept pounding on the door despite being warned to stop.

Bangor police Officer Al Woolley gave Giannotti a disorderly conduct warning, but even before the officer got to his cruiser, he was called back to the apartment after Giannotti pounded on the door again. Giannotti was charged with disorderly conduct.

The cat didn’t do it, according to a Bangor man who initially thought the crashing sound in his residence early Wednesday morning was his cat knocking over a lamp. At the time he decided a call to police wasn’t necessary.

But upon inspection later that morning, the man discovered one of his front windows, not a lamp, was broken, he told Bangor police Officer Kerry Libby. The damage was estimated at $200. Libby asked that his home be added to a list of places checked by patrol officers.
