Bluegrass festival to run Sept. 8-10

BANGOR – The second annual Paul Bunyan Bluegrass Festival is ready to go Friday through Sunday, Sept. 8-10, at the Paul Bunyan Campground on outer Union Street.

The event will run 6-9 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday.

The Kruger Brothers of North Carolina will be the special guest stars on Saturday.

The Kruger Brothers, originally from Switzerland, have been performing since 1973 and appearing regularly in the United States since 1997. They have performed at numerous prestigious music festivals.

Uwe Kruger on guitar, Jens Kruger on banjo, and bassist Joel Landsberg play traditional American folk and bluegrass music with classical European musical influences.

Also scheduled throughout the weekend are a variety of acts:

. Borderline Bluegrass, Friday and Saturday.

. Penobscot River Ramblers, Friday and Saturday.

. Katahdin Valley Boys, Saturday and Sunday.

. Sweet Grass, Saturday.

. Wilf Clark and The Misty Mountaineers, Saturday.

. North Star, Saturday and Sunday.

. Midnight Flyer, Sunday.

. Evergreen, Saturday.

. The Muellers, Friday and Saturday.

. Union River Band, the hosts, Saturday.

. Dan Cunningham, Friday.

. Spring Creek, Friday.

. Ken and Jane Brooks, Sunday.

Ken Brooks and Hal Meyers will be the masters of ceremonies. Sound is by MacIntire Sound.

Workshops will be offered on guitar, mandolin, banjo, harmony and bass.

“Bring lawn chairs, family and friends, and your instruments to do some serious field pickin’,” said Bill Thibodeau.

Tickets are $10 for Friday, $25 Saturday and $12 Sunday. Save money by purchasing a weekend ticket for $40.

The campground is located on Route 22, nearly three miles out Union Street from Exit 184

on Interstate 95.
