DASH network receives award

BANGOR – Eastern Agency on Aging announced that the DASH Network has been honored with an Aging Achievement Award by the National Association of Area Agencies on Aging.

The Aging Achievement Awards recognize programs on aging from across the country that provide successful, cost-effective approaches to assist older adults in living independently in their homes as well as provide support to the caregivers of older adults.

“The AAAs and Title VI programs make a huge difference in the lives of older adults. These professionals are on the front lines of aging. They provide services that help older adults remain healthy and active, support frail seniors to live independently in their homes and assist caregivers helping their older loved ones,” said Sandy Markwood, the association’s CEO.

DASH – or Disability and Aging Services Helpline – Network is designed to make life easier for seniors and people with physical or mental disabilities. One call to DASH will enable the senior or disabled person to get an important referral to the appropriate social service agency.

The DASH Network is housed at, and working in collaboration with, Eastern Agency on Aging in Bangor. EAA serves Penobscot, Piscataquis, Hancock and Washington counties in eastern Maine.

Eastern Agency on Aging is the best source of information, options and services for people as they grow older. The honored programs will serve as models for other agencies seeking new and effective approaches to care for the older population in their communities. The need for successful, cost-effective aging programs is especially important in light of the wave of aging baby boomers expected to require such services in the years ahead.

The National Association of Area Agencies on Aging is the leading voice on aging issues for Area Agencies on Aging across the country and a champion for Title VI – Native American aging programs in the nation’s capital. For more information about the association, visit www.n4a.org.
