Orrington youth soccer

ORRINGTON – The Orrington recreation committee is busy gearing up for its 2006 soccer season. This year the committee will offer soccer programs for children in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. The committee will register participants 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5, and Thursday, Sept. 7, at the Center Drive School. The cost is $15 per child or $30 per family.

Recreation committee board President Benny Veenhof said, “Soccer is our largest program, and based on past years, we expect as many as 200 participants this year.”

Games will begin Saturday Sept. 16, and run through October. The committee needs volunteers to help as coaches and referees, and to work in the Snack Shack. Teams for grades three through eight can be sponsored by businesses or individuals for teams.

To help keep the community informed of its activities, the committee uses the town of Orrington Web site. Registration forms and updated information such as schedules will be available online at http://orrington.govoffice.com/ under the Municipal Departments, Recreation” and ORC Forms links.

Orrington Recreation Committee provides Orrington youth, pre-kindergarten through eighth grade, with educational sports programs in soccer, basketball, cheerleading and baseball that focus on building skills and having fun. The programs help provide a solid foundation for future sports endeavors through team building and an emphasis on sportsmanship.
