A Bangor man was charged Thursday night with assault when two women reported he had struck his girlfriend during a drunken rage.
The girlfriend asked Timothy Blackwell, 24, to leave the home on Bald Mountain Road because he was intoxicated and yelling, and she didn’t want him to wake her child, according to police reports.
Bangor police Officer Chris Desmond responded to the call around 9 p.m. The two women wold Desmond that Blackwell had left on foot with a friend and was headed toward Deer Isle Road.
Desmond left the residence to search for Blackwell and the friend and spotted them in a field. They ran from his vehicle, according to police reports.
When Desmond returned to the residence, the women told him that Blackwell’s girlfriend had tried to lock him out of the house but that he had pushed his way through the back door, knocking her to the floor and then charging at her.
One of the women hit Blackwell in the face with her fist to try to stop him from hitting his girlfriend, according to reports. Blackwell then threw things in the living room and upstairs in the house.
Blackwell’s girlfriend did not deny he had been drinking but said he had not hurt her. The other two women told Desmond that Blackwell had hit his girlfriend that night and on several past occasions. They said she would not admit he had hit her because she didn’t want him to go to jail.
The girlfriend had no visible injuries, according to Desmond’s report.
Desmond left the scene but received a call from one of the women three hours later reporting that Blackwell had returned to the Bald Mountain Road residence.
Bangor police Officer Dennis Townsend and Maine State Police Trooper Michael Johnston assisted Desmond when he returned to the home. They saw Blackwell attempting to leave through a second-story window in the back of the home.
When Blackwell saw the officers, he crawled back through the window and into the house. He was arrested and taken to Penobscot County Jail.
