LaBelle leads Black Bears to shutout of Temple

AMBLER, Pa. – Christine LaBelle scored on a Jordon Pekrul assist 18:19 into the gam e to lead the University of Maine women’s soccer team to a 3-0 victory over Temple Friday.

Natalie Berry and Marie Andree Canuel added a goal for the 2-0-1 Black Bears. Brittany Saisselin posted an assist. Jasmine Phillips made four saves on seven shots.

Liz Tarasevich and Tiffany Kasunich combined to make four saves on 13 shots for the 1-2 Owls.

MMA 1, Framingham State 1

At Castine, Hillary Arris made 12 saves on 30 shots to preserve a tie for the Mariners.

Kristen Gaylord scored for 0-0-1 Maine Maritime off a pass from Diana Manatt-Rogers in the first half. Renee Schondebare tied to for 0-0-1 Framingham State in the second half.

Framingham State’s Kimberly Sontag and Janelle Reif combined for seven saves on nine shots.

Field hockey

Gordon 4, Southern Maine 1

At Gorham, Sarah Orlando scored twice to push Gordon College past the University of Southern Maine.

Whitney Plaster and Tori Blandin added goals for 1-0 Gordon. Nichole Hunt and Marissa Weaver each had an assist. Chyanne Wilson made 13 saves.

Alyssa Kraus scored on a Leah Scrutchfield assist for the 0-1 Huskies. Allie Hill made 12 saves.

Men’s soccer

UMPI 2, UM-Fort Kent 1

At Fort Kent, Robert Allan scored the winning goal on a Joseph Pinault assist in the 67th minute to lead the University of Maine-Presque Isle past the University of Maine-Fort Kent in the Bengal Kick-Off Classic.

Travis Parent scored on an Allan assist for the 1-0 Owls. Scott Clenchy stopped 13 of 14 shots.

Arnold Lewis scored an unassisted goal for the 0-1 Bengals as Derrick Plourde made seven saves on nine shots.

Skidmore 3, Southern Maine 2

At Gorham, Van Haskell scored on a penalty kick in the 48th minute as Skidmore College held on for the win.

Colin Minte and Ernie Economides added a goal each for the 1-0 winners. Jake Densen made three saves on five shots.

Gabe Labbe and Golf Pengthong netted a goal each for the 0-1 Huskies. Chris Willard had six saves on 11 shots.
