Trappers showcase slated for Medway Salmon breakfast slated in Eddington

Trappers from across the state will gather in Medway next weekend for the Maine Trappers Association fall rendezvous.

The event, hosted by the Katahdin Chapter of the MTA, will run from Friday through Sunday at the East Branch Sno-Rovers clubhouse.

Seminars will be held on trapping various animals and a variety of other outdoor topics including lure-making and wild edible plants.

A number of children’s events also are scheduled, including a cornhusking contest and an eel race.

On-site camping is available for $5 per night.

Penobscot Fly Fishers to meet

The Penobscot Fly Fishers will hold their regular monthly dinner meeting Wednesday at the Coach House Restaurant in Brewer.

Attendees will begin showing up about 6 p.m. and order from the menu from 6:30 to 6:45. This month’s speaker is master Maine guide Kevin McKay, the owner of Fish Stalker Guide Service and co-creator of www.maineflyfish.com. McKay will speak about fishing, guiding and his Web site.

MYFGA plans banquet

Maine’s Youth Fish & Game Association will hold its annual public fundraising event Sept. 23 at the Old Town Elks Club.

Doors open at 5 p.m., and the evening will include a dinner, entertainment, and a variety of auctions, raffles and door prizes.

Adult admission is $5, youths age 5-15 pay $3, and children under 5 get in free.

Salmon breakfast on tap

The opening day of the experimental Atlantic salmon season on the Penobscot River is Sept. 15, but hungry anglers will have to wait a day to fill their bellies at a (nearly) opening-day breakfast.

That breakfast will be held Sept. 16 at the Eddington Salmon Club and will run from 6 a.m. until 10 a.m.

Organizers say several top-notch chefs will be on hand to prepare their specialties, and the event promises to be well-attended.

PCCA holding 29th gun show

The Penobscot County Conservation Association will present its 29th annual Bangor Gun Show at the Bangor Auditorium on Sept. 9-10.

Proceeds from the show are used by the PCCA to support scholarships for wildlife conservation students at the University of Maine and Unity College.

The PCCA also supports Maine hunter education and marksmanship training programs, and is a major contributor to the Greenland Point Conservation School.

The show will feature new, used, antique and historical firearms, ammunition, parts, and all sorts of shooting accessories.

Admission is $6. NRA members, law enforcement officers and military personnel pay $5. Children under 12 get in free when accompanied by an adult. Anyone joining the NRA at the show will be admitted for free.
