I am an Air Force retiree and I take exception to the letter to the editor, “AWOL Congress” (BDN, Aug. 21).
It was of interest to me that the letter writer [Carole Whelan] evidently speaks for the organization Military Families Speak Out, which would lead one to think they speak with one voice.
The writer suggests that Rep. Tom Allen should vote against funding for the war. The reality is we are at war and now those of us who were, and remain opposed to the war should ask our representatives to withdraw the funds so that our troops can’t function?
We have no choice. We cannot undo what has been done. So for which candidate one should vote for is not for me to say.
It’s an individual’s choice and I should like to think that everyone would make that choice after careful, deliberate consideration and not based on propaganda, group think, political party or loyalty to any “ism.”
