WINDSOR, Conn. – Laura Harper scored two goals as the University of Maine women’s soccer team earned a 2-0 victory over Canisius College Sunday.
Kim Stephenson assisted Harper’s second goal for the 3-0-1 Black Bears. Jasmine Phillips blocked all three shots.
Jenna Gage made five saves on seven shots for 1-3 Canisius.
Gordon 2, Southern Maine 0
At Wenham, Mass., Kiersten Hess scored a goal and added an assist to lead Gordon College to victory over the University of Southern Maine Saturday.
Amanda Whittet headed in a goal for the 1-0 Flying Scots and Mary Griffenhagen made five saves on nine shots.
Mindy Morneault made seven saves on 20 shots for the 0-1 Huskies.
Field hockey
Maine 2, Missouri State 0
At Evanston, Ill., Saturday, Nicole Emery scored two first-half goals to power the Black Bears to victory.
Erin Reusch and Amy Zdrojesky provided assists for 3-1 Maine. Rebecca Giroux faced no shots.
Kim Kinsella made 12 saves on 15 shots for 0-3 Missouri State.
Northwestern 4, Maine 3
At Evanston, Ill., Sunday, Katie Charles’ unassisted goal in the 43rd minute helped Northwestern complete a rally and earn the win after the Black Bears had a 3-1 lead.
Jill Putnam, Christina Foley, and Cassie Miller provided goals for 3-1 Northwestern. Emily Kyle made five saves on nine shots.
Joanna Fernandez and Nicole Emery each scored a goal and assisted on another for the 3-2 Black Bears. Amy Zdrojesky also scored a goal and Katie Flaherty made an assist. Rebecca Giroux stopped 14 of 19 shots.
Volleyball
Kansas, Temple top Maine
At Philadelphia Saturday, Kansas defeated the Black Bears 30-22, 31-29, 30-17 in the first of two games in the Temple Invitational. Temple won the second in four matches 30-10, 21-30, 30-21, 30-28.
In the first game, Savannah Noyes led 3-0 Kansas with 13 kills. Maine’s Jessica Wolfenden had 12 kills and Lindsay Allman added 10 kills. Amanda Armstrong had three blocks.
In the second game, Yue Liu racked up 24 kills for the Owls. Allman recorded 11 kills and Brittany Kiehl had 10 kills against 3-1 Temple. Shelly Seipp had 36 assists and five services aces for 0-6 Maine.
Men’s soccer
Husson 4, Maine Maritime 0
At Bangor Saturday, Nathan Carter scored twice to lead Husson past Maine Maritime Academy of Castine.
Hiroshi Iwabuchi scored a goal and provided two assists for the 1-0 Eagles. Oscar Ody scored in the second half and Jeffrey Truchon had an assist. Jon Couie turned away all six shots.
Josh Heath stopped 11 of 15 shots for the 0-1 Mariners.
Holy Cross 2, Maine 0
At Worcester, Mass., Saturday, Alex Cruz scored on a Andreas Andrews assist three minutes into the first half as Holy Cross shut down Maine.
Felipe Castrillon added a second half goal on a Sefton Kincaid assist for 2-0 Holy Cross. Keith Bauer saved all three shots.
Giacomo Brunino made five saves on seven shots for the 0-4 Black Bears.
