The Eastern Maine Fair Economy Commission invites the public to take part in community forums on so-called big-box development and the local economy. The three forums, all from 7 to 9 p.m., will be held Sept. 20 at Ellsworth City Hall, Sept. 25 at the Alamo Theater in Bucksport, and Oct. 5 at Wellman Commons at the Bangor Theological Seminary.

Discussion topics will include the effect of big-box stores on jobs, wages and other businesses, the balance between tax revenues and demand for services, the importance of low prices for people with low incomes, and where the products the stores sell are manufactured.
