BREWER – For its monthly meeting, the Brewer Historical Society will host a Joshua Chamberlain Birthday Celebration at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12, at Brewer Auditorium.
Chamberlain was born Sept. 8, 1828, in Brewer.
Lois McKeering of Hartland, a Civil War civilian re-enactor, will present “With Your Lock of Hair,” a program of education and fun about the art of hair work.
Step back in time with McKeering as she shares her knowledge of this lost art. Men and women will find the presentation of interest, as these treasures were made for and used by men and women.
On display will be some unique curios of the days and ladies “underpinnings,” which will answer the age-old question, “What is underneath?”
Several members of the 20th Maine Volunteer Infantry and their civilian counterparts, “Joshua’s Angels,” will be on hand in period dress as well.
Light refreshments will be offered after the presentation. Questions will be welcome.
Those who have a piece of hair work and would like to share its beauty with the audience are invited to bring it along.
