More charges possible in vacant-house damage

Additional charges could be filed against a Bangor man and two juveniles who Bangor police said had recently damaged windows and other things inside a vacant home on Essex Street. The incident was reported Sept. 2.

Adam Freeman, 20, of Bangor and a 17-year-old and a 14-year-old staying at the Shaw House, were all charged with criminal mischief, according to police.

The teenagers admitted to breaking some of the 10 damaged windows, but told Bangor police Officer Larry Morrill that Freeman had done most of the damage. They said he damaged a door and tried to push a refrigerator through a wall.

Witnesses placed all three in the building, and Morrill has asked prosecutors to consider additional charges of burglary. Damage was estimated at $1,900.

A brother and sister from Veazie were charged with burglary recently after relatives discovered the pair had entered their home while they were out and allegedly took some items.

The relatives had been burglarized before and set up a recording device inside the home, Detective John Trask of the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office, said Wednesday. On Aug. 22 the device captured the voices of Matthew A. Spencer, 18, and his sister Nicole Spencer, 20, both of Veazie. The two were charged with burglary but denied taking the change and two rings that were reported missing, Trask said.

Matthew Spencer, however, did admit to taking a diamond ring, worth $2,000, from the home back in June 2005, Trask said. The ring was recovered, and Spencer was charged with theft.

An accident Wednesday on South Main Street in Brewer during the busy lunchtime travel time slowed and in some cases stopped traffic for a while, but no injuries were reported.

A motorist pulling out of the driveway of Tozier’s Market about 12:20 p.m. was watching a tractor-trailer approaching from the direction of Orrington but didn’t see the motor vehicle heading in the other direction, Cpl. Roger Hershey of the Brewer Police Department said.

The driver pulled out into the intersection and hit the southbound vehicle, leaving both vehicles in the street.

For about 20 minutes, traffic heading out of Brewer was stopped altogether while inbound traffic slowly squeezed around the vehicle in its lane, Hershey said.
