Unity, Saint Joseph’s record shutout victories

UNITY – Ryan Howes, Matt Pickowicz and Jeremy Pelletier each scored a goal to lead Unity College to a 3-0 men’s soccer victory over Eastern Maine Community College Wednesday.

Jon Korkos recorded two assists for 1-1 Unity while Tyler Ferguson stopped one shot on goal.

Phil Bowers made eight saves on 11 shots for the 0-1 Golden Eagles.

UMF 0, Lyndon State 0 (2OT)

At Farmington, the University of Maine-Farmington Beavers had to settle for a tie despite outplaying Lyndon State.

The 0-0-1 Beavers had the edge in corners (8-4) and shots (22-8), but couldn’t put the ball in the net. Brian Lemont notched the shutout.

Saint Joseph’s 5, Thomas 0

At Standish, Harrison Deah scored two goals, one on a penalty kick, to lead the Saint Joseph’s College Monks past Thomas College of Waterville.

Doug McCallum and Eamonn Harrigan each had a goal and an assist for the 1-1 Monks. Cory Smith and Greg Cavanaugh combined to make eight saves on 12 shots.

Dan Philbrook and Dustin Green combined to make nine saves on 25 shots for the 0-1 Terriers.

Women’s soccer

USM 5, UNE 0

At Biddeford, Caitlin Brown and Katie Else each scored two goals and the University of Southern Maine scored three times over a five-minute stretch of the second half to beat the University of New England.

Shannon Martin added an unassisted goal for the 1-2 winners and Mindy Morneault recorded three saves.

For 0-1 UNE, Mallory Wilson made nine saves and Leigh Engel had one.

Field hockey

UNE 2, St. Joseph’s 0

At Biddeford, Taryn Flagg and Lisa Baillergeon netted a goal apiece as the University of New England shut out St. Joseph’s.

Dory Mercer and Tanya Callan combined for seven saves for the 2-0 Nor’Easters.

Karrie Sirois made eight saves for the 0-1 Monks.
