A Bangor man was arrested Wednesday night for allegedly threatening to kill a woman.

Police responded to a call around 10 p.m. about a family fight possibly involving a knife. They met with the victim’s neighbor at his Jefferson Street residence, who told them the victim had run to his apartment crying and asking to be hidden. After letting her in and locking the door, he had called police.

According to police documents, Keith Ashton, 34, and the victim had been fighting at their Blackstone Street residence for several hours about their son’s schoolwork and other issues.

The fight escalated until the victim told Ashton she was leaving. Police reports indicate he prevented her from leaving and brought the two children downstairs to watch them argue.

While the children were still in the room, Ashton threatened to kill the victim. According to police documents, the victim left the room for a moment and when she returned saw Ashton putting a knife into his waistband.

One of the children saw the knife and screamed, distracting Ashton long enough for the victim to leave the house and go to the neighbor’s apartment.

Police later questioned the two children. Their stories matched that of the victim. Ashton was arrested on charges of criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon and was taken to Penobscot County Jail.

Four edged weapons were removed from the home at the victim’s request. Police reports state that alcohol was involved in the incident.

A Holden man kept police busy Thursday when he was arrested twice in the span of four hours.

Around 2 p.m., police received a call about a domestic disturbance. Aaron R. Brooker, 36, allegedly had pushed and choked his fiancee at their home on Main Road during an argument.

Holden Police Chief Gene Worcester and Officer Chris Greeley responded to the call, and upon interviewing the woman and her sister, who had witnessed and reported the altercation, they arrested Brooker on charges of assault. It was determined that alcohol was involved in the incident.

At approximately 5:30 p.m., police again were called to Brooker’s residence when Chief Worcester, then off duty, witnessed Brooker drive up to and enter the home with the woman. Officer Greeley responded and arrested Brooker for violation of conditional release.

Orono police arrested a Bangor man Wednesday on charges of OUI, possession of alcohol by a minor and illegal transportation of alcohol by a minor.

According to police reports, Officer Scott Lajoie saw a 2003 Ford Ranger going 45 mph on College Avenue in Orono. The speed limit is 25 mph. When Officer Lajoie turned to follow the truck, it turned down a dead-end street.

Richard Esty, 19, had a partially consumed 30-pack of beer in the passenger seat of the truck. When questioned, he denied that he had been drinking. According to police reports, he failed the field sobriety test and was arrested. He was found to have a blood alcohol content of 0.18 percent.

A call about an assault resulted in the arrest of a Bangor man for operating a vehicle without a license.

Police responded to the call from Shaw’s on Main Street in Bangor at approximately 8 p.m. Wednesday. Malcolm Young, 30, was in a car in the parking lot with a female suspected of assaulting a Shaw’s customer. According to reports, when police asked him for identification, he informed them his license had been suspended and gave them a Maine ID card.

Police reports state that the female suspect did not have a license either, and told police that her father had lent the car to her and Young to get groceries. Young had been driving the vehicle.

No charges were pressed for assault. Police arrested Young for operating after suspension, and the car was towed from the scene.
