Hampden earns win over Morse Becker, Smith, Seger fuel Broncos’ offense

HAMPDEN – Eddie Becker racked up 146 yards on 23 carries and scored on runs of nine and three yards in the first quarter as Hampden Academy edged Morse of Bath 34-26 in high school football action Friday night.

Sophomore quarterback Shawn Smith completed 7-of-9 passes for 207 yards and three touchdowns, and recorded an interception.

Bob Seger caught four passes for 142 yards and two touchdowns for the Broncos, and added seven tackles and an interception. Justin Kelsey hauled in a 44-yard TD pass from Smith to put HA up 34-20 in the fourth.

Matt Osborne recorded 10 tackles while Michael Jenkins notched nine tackles and an interception.

Jamie Denning connected on touchdown passes of seven, 31 and 17 yards to Logan Russell for the Shipbuilders and added a 25-yard TD toss on a screen pass to Antonio Valentine.

Rockland 43, Stearns 18

At Rockland, Mike Marsh rushed for 189 yards and three touchdowns on 17 carries as the Rockland Tigers topped Stearns of Millinocket 43-18 in high school football action Friday night.

Junior quarterback Andrew Weiss completed five passes for 159 yards for Rockland, including two TD passes to Josh Elwell.

Gene Kim paced Stearns with 185 yards and two TDs on 32 carries, while sophomore Cory Barnett added 83 yards on 21 carries.

Rockland used a pair of Stearns fumbles to take a quick 14-0 lead.

After the first fumble, Weiss passed 23 yards to Elwell to give the Tigers a 6-0 lead just 2:09 into the game.

Rockland’s Sam Weiss recovered a fumble on the subsequent kickoff, and Marsh then scored his first TD from 25 yards out.

Weiss later connected with Elwell on an 89-yard TD pass to make it 22-0 by the end of the quarter, and Weiss scored the final touchdown of the half on a 2 yard run.

Stearns scored first in the second half on a 17-yard pass from Jordan Burleigh to Luke Stahl.

Marsh then scored from 29 yards out before Kim brought Stearns back within 35-18 on TD runs of 2 and 14 yards.

Marsh then capped off the scoring with a 19-yard run.

Leavitt 48, Old Town 13

At Old Town, Evan Barker ran for touchdowns of nine, 11 and four yards to carry the Hornets of Turner past the Coyotes.

Barker opened the scoring with a 9-yard TD run and followed up with touchdowns of 11 and four yards in the first half. Craig McCann added to the attack when he hauled in a 33-yard pass for a touchdown.

Old Town answered when quarterback Jarrett Lukas connected with Matt Willey on a 14-yard TD pass. That cut Leavitt’s lead to 28-6 at the end of the first half.

Leavitt responded with three more touchdowns in the second half as McCann ran for a 1-yard TD, followed by a Tyler Green 2-yard TD run and a 5-yard TD run by Ryan Farris.

Leavitt finished with 471 total yards.

Lukas scored Old Town’s second touchdown on a 12-yard run and Matt Jones kicked the extra point.

Lukas turned in a solid effort for Old Town as he completed 7-of-17 passes for 141 yards. The Coyotes added 107 yards on the ground for 248 total yards.

At Lewiston, Jared Turcotte scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns to lead Lewiston to victory.

Turcotte scored from five yards and six yards out, respectively to lead Lewiston. Ethan Gagnon kicked both extra points.

Mike Toothaker scored on a three-yard run in the first quarter for Mt. Blue and Art Trask added the extra point kick.

At Fairfield, quarterback Jack Hersom rushed for two touchdowns to lead Lawrence by Edward Little of Auburn.

Mark Ashland kicked a field goal in the second quarter to make the score 10-0 at halftime. David Wallis also scored a touchdown for Lawrence with a two-yard run in the third quarter.
