The Maine Department of Transportation on Tuesday and Wednesday, Sept. 12-13, will install wire loops in the pavement on the east end of the Veterans Remembrance Bridge on Interstate 395, according to Pete Pelletier of the DOT’s traffic engineering section. Traffic will be restricted to a single lane between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. The wire loops are detection loops that record the traffic on the bridge and are part of statewide data collection to help plan future highway improvements and track travel trends. There also is a possibility that the exit ramp connecting eastbound bridge traffic from Bangor to Route 15 in Brewer will have to be closed.
