SWANVILLE – State police on Tuesday were investigating two break-ins at the town office that netted the intruder more than $500 in cash.

Trooper Jonah O’Roak said the first break-in was reported Sept. 5. Entrance was gained by cutting a screen and opening an unlocked window. Approximately $300 was taken from the town’s cash box.

The second break-in was reported Monday and $213 was taken from the cash box.

O’Roak said entrance was gained by either jimmying the front door or with a key that could have been stolen during the first break-in. O’Roak said the town has a safe but it was under repair at the time of the break-ins. He said he advised officials to consider wiring the building with a burglar alarm.

O’Roak said he collected fingerprints and other evidence and that the matter remained under investigation.
