Craig finishes eighth in world cycling event

SCHLADMING, Austria – Adam Craig of Corinth and Bend, Ore., finished off the 2006 International Cycling Union mountain biking World Cup season Saturday with his best finish of the year.

The 25-year-old Craig was the top American finisher, placing eighth overall among 131 riders who completed the men’s elite cross country event at Schladming, the sixth stop on the World Cup schedule.

Christoph Sauser of Switzerland won the event in 2 hours, 37 seconds, with fellow Swiss Florian Vogel second in 2:01:11. Craig finished 3 minutes, 10 seconds behind Sauser in 2:03:47.

The result lifted Craig to 13th overall in the 2006 World Cup point standings, 10 points behind 12th-place Jeremy Horgan-Kobelski, the top-ranking American.
