AUGUSTA – The Small Woodland Owners Association of Maine will hold its 10th annual Forestry Fair on Saturday, Sept. 16, at Thomson’s Apple Orchard on Gloucester Hill Road in New Gloucester. The event, which is free to all, includes forest resource exhibits, vendors and demonstrations which take place under a tent and in nearby woodland.
The fair schedule will include 30-45 minute sessions on the following topics:
. 10:30 a.m. “Proper Pruning Techniques and Equipment” and “Spotting Future Veneer Logs Now.”
. 11:30 a.m. “Proper Pruning Techniques and Equipment” and “Chain Saw Safety.”
. 12:30 p.m. “Spotting Future Veneer Logs Now” and “Under the Forest Canopy.”
. 1:30 p.m. “Chain Saw Safety” and “Under the Forest Canopy.”
Everett Towle, president of SWOAM, said, “The Forestry Fair is a great chance for anyone who owns woodland or is interested in woodland to meet with and learn from experts in the field of forestry, wildlife management, recreation, taxes and many others.”
There will also be an on-site food vendor and a door prize drawing every hour. Raffle items include a Stihl chainsaw donated by Northeast Stihl, $100 gift certificate from L.L. Bean, $25 gift certificate from Miller’s Department Store, Silky Pocket Boy 130 folding saw donated by licensed forester Paul Miller, framed “Maine Woodsmen” print donated by Machias Savings Bank, an American Tree Farm System buck knife and $45 value SWOAM merchandise gift bags.
