News in brief ORRINGTON: FIVE LOCALS ON OCTOBER BALLOT

Three local residents would like to fill the empty selectman’s seat, and two are running for one spot on the school board. Lori Callnan is facing off against Kathy Lawrence during the special Oct. 16 election to fill the spot left vacant in August when Nancy Snyder resigned to teach art at Center Drive School. Snyder’s term expires in July 2008. Resident Wayne Cartier is running against former Selectman Paul White and former Selectman Christine Lavoie for the empty seat once held by David Levine, who resigned at the end of June to take a job in Portland. Levine beat out Lavoie by five votes for the three-year term during June elections, and White resigned from the board at the end of November 2006 to serve as interim town manager.
