Teenager faces charges in BB shooting of boy

NORWAY – A teenager accused of firing a BB gun toward a day care center, hitting a 6-year-old boy, is facing criminal charges, police said.

Police have issued a summons for the 13-year-old charging him with criminal mischief and reckless conduct. A second teenager also is being investigated in connection with the case, Norway police Chief Rob Federico said.

The incident happened late last month. The victim was on the playground outside when he began screaming that he’d been hit or stung.

Day care officials didn’t figure out that he might have been shot with a BB gun until they noticed that a truck had been hit several times. A closer examination of the boy’s injury revealed he’d been hit by a pellet.

“My last thought on Earth was someone would be shooting a kid,” said Brenda Dionne, director of the child care center.
