A Bangor man was arrested for operating under the influence of intoxicants and operating after suspension when he allegedly hit a box truck near Bangor International Airport and fled the scene just before 6 p.m. Wednesday.

No one was hurt in the crash, but Bangor police were able to trace the plates on the Ford Econoline van to Scott D. Yerxa, 46, of 73 Somerset Ave. in Bangor.

When police arrived at Yerxa’s building, they found the van sitting in the driveway with damage on the front passenger side, according to reports.

Yerxa had two previous OUIs and was on probation for other offenses. His license was also under restriction and he could not operate a vehicle with any amount of alcohol in his system, said police.

When officers finally got Yerxa to come outside, he was apparently intoxicated. He failed sobriety tests and was taken to the station for an Intoxilyzer test. His blood alcohol level was 0.29 percent. He then was taken to Penobscot County Jail where he was charged with operating under the influence and operating after suspension.

A North Yarmouth man was charged with operating under the influence after driving the wrong way on Oak Street in Bangor on Thursday.

Bangor police Officer Shawn M. Green was driving up State Street around 1:45 a.m. when he noticed a car traveling on the wrong side of the median on Oak Street and stopped the vehicle near the Varney Agency. He immediately noticed that the driver had bloodshot eyes, according to reports.

Green asked the driver, identified as Richard Sears, 37, of North Yarmouth, to get out of the car and perform sobriety tests, which Sears failed.

Green took him to the station and did an Intoxilyzer test. His blood alcohol level was 0.12 percent.

Sears was charged with operating under the influence of intoxicants.

A transient man was arrested at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor after punching a nurse early Thursday morning.

Randy Place, 45, had entered EMMC and requested alcohol detoxification, but decided to leave to smoke a cigarette. He was told that he would not be treated if he left the building so he refused treatment. He then asked for his backpack that was sitting in another room.

When one of the nurses brought him his bag, he punched him in the chest without provocation, according to reports.

Place was arrested and charged with assault.
