Richardson leads Brewer to 3rd win

NEWPORT – Andrew Richardson scored two first-half goals to lead the Brewer Witches to a 5-1 schoolboy soccer victory over the Nokomis Warriors Thursday.

Aaron Saunders, Shun Sasaki and Danny Neil each scored a goal. Marc Relford recorded two assists while Lucas Simmons had one. Chris Brady stopped 10 of 12 shots for 3-2 Brewer.

Jordan Reynolds scored for the 1-4 Warriors off a Jordan Woodbury assist. Wayne May made 15 saves on 21 shots.

JV: Brewer 5-0

Highview 5, Islesboro 2

At Islesboro, Josh Mountain scored two goals, one off a corner kick, to lift Highview Christian of Charleston.

Jonas Kramer, Jonathan Reed and Son Thanh Mac each added a goal for the 1-0 winners and Tuibaut Pogorcelski notched an assist. Wesley Jones made three saves and Jonas Kramer had eight saves on 12 shots.

Jon Cunningham notched a goal and an assist for 0-4 Islesboro and Nate Graham added a goal.

Central 3, Penquis 0

At Milo, Danny Kane scored two goals and Scott Kelley added another as Central of Corinth blanked Penquis.

Charles Haney saved all seven shots he faced for the 2-1-1 Red Devils.

Brian Zwicker made 15 saves on 18 shots for the 0-5 Patriots.

Lee 4, Penobscot Valley 3

At Lee, Peter Pickering knocked in two goals as Lee Academy held off Penobscot Valley of Howland.

Tom Bird and Devan Parker added a goal apiece for the 3-0 Pandas. Jon Connick had eight saves on 13 shots.

Ryan Ware scored two goals and Cory Soucy one for the 0-2-1 Howlers. Brian Harris saved eight of 24 shots.

JV: Penobscot Valley 1-0

DI-Stonington 4, Bangor Chr. 1

At Deer Isle, Collin Ciomei netted two goals to propel Deer Isle-Stonington to victory.

Parker McDonald and Max Becton each scored a goal while Bryant Ciomei had an assist. Rob Brown stopped 10 of 11 shots for the 2-2 Mariners.

Brandon Wilcox scored for Bangor Christian with the assist coming from Phil Dougherty. Sam McLeod made 16 saves on 20 shots for the 1-3 Patriots.

Ellsworth 3, Foxcroft 0

At Ellsworth, Chris Leighton scored a goal and added an assist to lead Ellsworth to victory.

Dem Katsiaficas and James Doe each netted a goal while Luke Haskell tallied an assist for Ellsworth. Greg Berry and Patrick Kelley combined to make three saves on six shots.

Evan Bridges stopped 20 of 24 shots for 1-4 Foxcroft Academy.

MDI 2, Hermon 0

At Hermon, Naniel Hilliard and Andrew Beilleux each scored a second half goal to lead Mount Desert Island by Hermon.

John Joseph made three saves on seven shots for the 3-2 Trojans. Josh Blaine stopped 10 of 16 shots for the 0-5 Hawks.

JV: 0-0

Bangor 1, Old Town 0

At Bangor, Ross Allen scored the game-winning goal with 26:00 remaining in the game with an assist from JoJo Hwalek to lead Bangor by Old Town.

Aaron Taft stopped two of five shots for the 4-1 Rams.

Sam Petrie made eight saves on 18 shots for the 2-2 Coyotes.

JV: Bangor 5-0

Hampden 6, Lawrence 2

At Fairfield, Aaron Gilio had two goals and an assist to lead Hampden to the win.

Nick Beal, Nate Brown, Harvey Shue and John D’Halti added a goal apiece for the 3-1 Broncos. Cam Cox had four saves on seven shots.

Evan Bois and Sam Miller had a goal each for the 1-3 Bulldogs. Kory McPhail saved 10 of 18 shots.

JV: Hampden 1-0

Girls soccer

Brewer 0, Nokomis 0

At Brewer, goalies Carolynn Tuck of Brewer and Laurie Lyford of Nokomis each pitched a shutout through regulation play and two overtimes.

Tuck made seven saves on 12 shots for the 0-4-1 Witches. Lyford made 17 saves on 30 shots for the 1-2-2 Warriors of Newport.

Each team had a couple of good opportunities, perhaps the best coming when a Nokomis shot got past Tuck and was rolling toward the goal line until Brewer defender Kayla Dunn was able to get to the ball and deflect in back toward the Brewer goalie for the save.

Bangor Chr. 4, DI-Stonington 0

At Bangor, Christin Pelletier scored three goals as Bangor Christian shut out Deer Isle-Stonington.

Katherine Bragg scored a goal while Adrienne Riccie grabbed the assist. Mariah Bach and Morgan Staples faced no shots for the 5-0 Patriots.

Anika Powers made 25 saves on 49 shots for the 0-4 Mariners.

Richmond 6, Greenville 1

At Richmond, Katie Cray and Melanie Schanck each had two goals and an assist to lead the undefeated Bobcats to victory.

Hannah Breton scored an unassisted goal for Greenville.

Nicole Tuttle made five saves on eight shots for 4-0 Richmond. Rebecca Martell made 14 saves on 24 shots for 2-1 Greenville.

John Bapst 2, Hermon 0

At Hermon Wednesday, Catherine Lammert scored two second-half goals as the Crusaders of Bangor earned the win.

Maggie Kane provided an assist for 1-1-1 John Bapst. Caroline Cassling, and Amber Estes combined to stop seven of 10 shots.

Ashley Kelley made 15 saves on 17 shots for the 0-5-1 Hawks.

JV: John Bapst 2-0

Lawrence 3, Hampden 2

At Hampden, Meagan Forsythe had a goal and two assists to lead Lawrence of Fairfield.

Mikki Libbey paced Hampden Academy with a goal and an assist, while Anna Kalliola scored a goal and Sophie Kelmenson chipped in with an assist.

Amanda Andrews made 11 saves on 21 shots for 4-1 Lawrence. Michelle Wells made three saves on 14 shots for 2-3 Hampden.

JV: Lawrence 2-1

Field hockey

Mattanawcook 3, Bangor 0

At Lincoln, Kaleigh Brown, Michelle Paul and Brianna Hanscom each scored a goal to pace the Lynx past the Rams.

Denielle Nicastro and Victoria Smith each had an assist for 3-2-1 Mattanawcook. Vinni Nesin made four saves on six shots.

Makayla Marshall-Holmes made eight saves on 15 shots for 1-5-0 Bangor.
