FARMINGTON – The University of Southern Maine rallied for two unanswered goals in the second half en route to a 3-2 men’s soccer victory over the University of Maine at Farmington on Thursday.
Chris Lapointe scored off a cross from David Rowe at 77:31 to break the 2-2 tie. Greg Cox started scoring with a goal in the first half. Chris Willard made two saves for the 4-2 Huskies.
Jeff Tatarczuk and Peter Doolittle each scored a goal for UMF. Brian Lemont stopped six shots for the 0-2-1 Beavers.
Field hockey
Bates 4, Southern Maine 0
At Lewiston, Lindsey Ferguson scored two goals to lead Bates by the University of Southern Maine.
Carolyn King scored a goal and grabbed two assists while Abby Childs scored off an assist from Molly Lanigan. Sarah Spraque earned her second shutout victory with four saves on four shots for the 2-0 Bobcats.
Allie Hill made 17 saves on 26 shots for the 0-5 Huskies.
Women’s soccer
Bates 8, Saint Joseph’s 0
At Standish, Jessie Gargiulo and Amy Werblin each scored two goals to lead Bates by Saint Joseph’s.
Julie Brown, Jen Marino and Sarah Kwoh each added a goal for Bates while Molly Radis recorded two assists. Nini Spalding and Mia Lidofsky combined to make two saves on four shots for the 2-0 Bobcats.
Monica Cuda made 10 saves on 33 shots for the 2-1 Monks.
